Homespun from the Heart

I am Cindy Markovcy, the creator behind Homespun from the Heart, a collection of handcrafted primitive dolls and patterns. As a mom, entrepreneur, and lifelong maker, I am fortunate to work from my home studio, where each day brings the joy of creating something meaningful. My designs reflect a personal connection to the art of crafting, one that started long ago in my Girl Scout days and continues to grow with every doll I create.

My journey into the world of sewing began with a simple goal: to earn a badge in Girl Scouts. Little did I know, this would spark a lifelong passion for making. From my first lumpy felt elephant pillow to the first doll I created in 2004, every project has been a step in my artistic evolution. Today, Homespun from the Heart is a growing business with over 100 patterns and a presence in online marketplaces, craft shows, and retail stores.

The heart of my work lies in the delicate balance between nostalgia and creativity. I design each doll with love and care, inspired by the simple beauty of folk art and the joy of creating something handmade. The process is organic, starting with an idea and evolving through the meticulous stitching of each piece. I take pride in working several seasons ahead, constantly adding new designs to my growing collection.

Being a small business owner has granted me the freedom to adapt to new venues and opportunities. From hosting open houses to selling at craft shows, I am grateful for the flexibility to shape my work around my life. Every doll I create, and every pattern I design, carries a piece of my story—my love for crafting, my dedication to family, and my belief that handmade art brings joy to the world.
